Family History

I started doing Family history in 1993, I was addicted to it for about 6 years. I did my own FH, and did lots of research for other people, I even taught family history at college and in the CCE dept. of the local University.
Today, things are easier as a lot of records are available on the internet, but you mostly have to pay for access! I don’t do very much family history anymore, and do not want to pay to access the information on the internet, as I feel I do not spend enough time doing it. But some days, I feel like having a look (at free things), just to see if I can further any of my lines.
My Database contains over 15,000 people, mainly from Gloucestershire, although also include some from Worcestershire, Wiltshire, Yorkshire, Ireland, & Germany.

    • My Watkins are from Chepstow area.
In the future it will be more complicated for people to trace family trees due to how families are different today – mulitple marriages, name changes etc.

  1. Howdy PurpleSue,

Was looking for a recipe for lentil-nut roast and found this page. My grandmother, father’s side was married to an Allen. Hence my surname. She was from Winterbourne Glos. and her maiden name was Curtis. – Caroline Elizabeth. She lived with us until her death in ’62. One time she was telling me about W.C Grace the cricketer. It mostly went over my head, then. Recently, I was looking for the Curtis family background and discovered that one of W.C.’s tutor’s was named Curtis. So, now I wish I had listened more carefully to what she was telling me?

I’ve lived in B.C. Canada since 1977. Prior to that, I lived in Coaley and worked at Maudsley Engineering, near Dursley. Cheers, Jamie Allen
